I wouldn’t say Maxgroom has the best grip levels when you compare it against the likes of highly tactile Multigroom or Manscaped products.

Still, its compact size manages to offer sufficient grip for both generic and precision grooming work. The matte finish toward the top half helps out in this regard.

In wet conditions, or if you have sweaty palms, you’ll need to hold it a bit extra hard especially while precision grooming. Inside the shower, in general, I do bulk trimming so it hasn’t affected me much.

Metal Handle with IPX6 Rating

For the metallic build, the device is slightly weightier than the other affordable alternatives you see in the market. The great thing is, it has an IPX6 waterproof rating, thus no risk of water leakage.

I’ve used mode 1 on lighter beard and mustache areas. Mode 2 is generally good for coarse beard or body hair, when you’re applying bulk trimming.

The magnetic head attachment system is a life and time saver. You can just pull off one head and plug back another. And no, the heads don’t come off randomly, the magnet remains firm.

You get a detail blade on top of the trimmer blade to get the narrow areas cleaned out. While the foil head is not meant for a full shave, it can definitely smooth out short beard patches to skin level.

For body grooming, the body blade is slightly wider for better efficiency and accommodates coarser hair. Then again, stainless steel is not my favorite blade type for manscaping.

Perfect Closeness on Facial Hair

With a zero-overlap stainless steel blade, this Maxgroom trimmer can give the top beard grooming tools a run for their money!

Bulk trimming coarse beard feels like carving a cake using a sharp knife. It even works well with sizing down mustaches, be that with or without guards. The guards don’t snag till medium length.

Aside from beard and mustache trimming, this blade does exponentially well on neck hair. It’s indeed a welcome surprise considering its price point!

Skin-Comfort Ensured

Direct contact against the skin doesn’t feel harsh at all. The sharpness enables smooth sailing and even the sensitive parts of my face haven’t aroused irritation or redness.

I haven’t experienced any sort of ingrown hair, nor were there any accidental cuts or tugs. In case you feel any sort of burning, just sprinkle cold water on your skin and it should resolve the issue.

The same principle applies for the foil head too. Again, it’s not gonna work on stubbles or a full facial shave. Rather, it’s for finalizing your look once you’ve run your trimmer head through the facial hair.

Beard Styling Speed

The two speeds in the fast motor do increase grooming efficiency. For generic grooming, it only takes me a couple of minutes at best.

In case you’re doing intricate styling, the grooming speed can last up to 10-15 minutes, depending on the style and your expertise.

But the motor shows no hiccup, nor does the SS blade slow down. I go for 7,000 RPM if I’m bulk trimming (I have a coarse beard) and 6,500 for sensitive areas or fine tuning.

Body Grooming Verdict

The body blade has been the one I used for bulk removal. Without any guards, excessive pressure can cause redness because admit it, that’s the nature of an SS blade.

But if you work your way around the pressure or attach a guard, the operation has been smoother than expected. It sucks at efficiency though if you compare against dedicated body groomers.

I think the silver lining here is with the U-Blade. With extended reach and an angle that’s convenient for your wrist, trimming your back or even butt hair feels like a delightful experience.

That said, wet body grooming felt more comfortable and hassle-free due to the continuous running water. But, be it wet or dry, I’m not confident enough to use the SS blade for ball trimming. Maybe pubic hair at most.

Wet Trimming

In general, the IPX6 waterproof kicks in any time you’re trimming in wet conditions. For facial hair, if you’re looking for a full removal, wet trimming works equally well.

I mostly go for the wet mode in case of manscaping. Otherwise, I prefer to get the tactile crunching sensations with the glides, it helps me understand the cutting actions and required pressure.

There’s the option for corded use and the brand deems it safe to do so even inside the shower. But I’ll strongly advise against it - not that it doesn’t deliver, but because of general safety concerns.

Cleaning & Maintenance

The Maxgroom Trimmer has been very easy to clean. You can use the cleaning brush to pry out stray hair, although some compact particles have proven to be difficult to remove from the crannies.

Also, Multigroom 7000 has a dedicated rubber textured pad for thumb rest and an overall better grip, be that in wet or dry. On top of that, the weight across the handle is more balanced.

Maxgroom’s design is head-heavy since it caters more to precision grooming. With the matte finish on the top half, the compact shape becomes the major component for grip.

Where Maxgroom smokes Multigroom 7000 is with the U-Shape blade. It gives an extra edge to back hair trimming - a convenience missing in the Multigroom package.

As per battery life goes, Multigroom 7000 lasts for an astounding 4 hours compared to the 2 hours of Maxgroom. I personally think anything over 90 minutes for a versatile groomer is well-worth it.

If price wasn’t a factor, I’d still go for Philips Multigroom 7000 because it allows travel-friendliness on top of its performance, and it’s a proven device for many years.
